Winter Park PTA will expand Winter Park’s Waste Free Wednesday cafeteria recycling and education program. WIN funds will also support expanding the program to five additional New Hanover County schools in 2021. The program replaces plastic cafeteria items with compostable substitutes one day each week, reducing cafeteria waste from an average of 20 bags of trash to 2. The material is turned into compost that is returned to the school to fortify gardens where students grow produce and flowers and learn about soil, plants, and ecosystems.


Keep New Hanover Beautiful will expand the volunteer-led Cigarette Litter Prevention Program (CLPP) that collects, recycles and raises awareness of cigarette litter pollution. WIN funds will be used to purchase 15 stand-up collection canisters for placement in downtown Wilmington to keep this toxic litter out of our soil and water and turning it into recycled material and compost.
