    Happy Autumn!  As our temps cool down, WIN is heating up with a mix of Fall activities. This note outlines our busy October with something for everyone – exciting launches, thoughtful discussions, opportunities to join a Listening Session and an invitation to join WIN’s Board! 

  • ·      Oct 7:  Next week the Philanthropy Team launches WIN’s Areas of Giving Circles. Building on the success of WIN’s first two circles - the ongoing Book Club and the Impact Circle – we are excited to announce new circles for each of WIN’s areas of giving:  Arts & Culture, Environment, Health & Wellness and Education. Zoom with us on Tues, Oct 7, 5:30 to hear about their purpose, status and early insights from the Arts & Culture Circle as we begin preparing for the upcoming 2021 Grants Cycle.  
  • ·      Oct 14:  Zoom with us again on Tues, Oct 14, 5:30 to further explore the power of collective giving groups as we focus on “Community Engagement – Stories from the Front Lines.” Meet one of our newest members, Renee Gurganus, who will host an open discussion about collaboration, imaginative use of resources and specific “do’s and don’ts.” Renee offers fresh perspective on expanding our collective impact based on a wealth of experience in collective giving and over 20 years in non- and for-profit leadership. 
  • ·      Oct 15-Nov 15: Join a WIN Listening Session and share your aspirations for our future! WIN has come a long way in 10 years and the table is set for a very bright future. We’d like to hear your perspectives on where we are today and how we can take WIN to the next level. WIN Member and professional non-profit facilitator, Kim Nelson, will lead a series of small discussion groups to explore these questions. Join her in these open, interactive sessions to share your views and hear what other WIN Members think! Schedule your slot with Kim here.
  • ·      Oct 19/24: Save the date for two events regarding recent Environment Grant recipient, Cape Fear Tree Alliance. Sponsored by the Environment Circle, we’ll hear a Zoom update on Mon, Oct 19, 5:30pmfrom Connie Parker, ED at CFTA, followed by a hands-on opportunity to plant trees on Sat, Oct 24, 1:30pm.
  • ·      Oct 23: Deadline to Apply for WIN’s Board. Are you excited to take WIN to the next level? As WIN approaches our 10th anniversary in 2021, it’s the perfect time to help celebrate the past and frame up the future. WIN members who want to lend their talent to the WIN Board can apply for one of 3 seats that will open in November. Board terms are 2 years and the new Board will elect all Officers and Board Committee Reps. You’ll find more info about the Board and how to apply here.   • ·      Nov 2-Nov 9: Members vote for candidates to fill 3 open Board seats. Here’s another election you don’t want to miss!
  • ·      Nov 17:  WIN’s Annual General Meeting and installation of new Board members

As a final note, Patricia de la Sota, Chair of Grants, is getting a head start on the Arts & Culture Grants cycle. Next week is the formal announcement of the 2021 Grants cycle to the non-profit community. Patricia and Jeanette Philips are actively fielding the Large and Small Grants committees and welcome your interest at win4nhcgrants@gmail.com.
